| NCOs make sure little things get done | An exercise in adversity.
That's what Redleg War turned into this week for 120 second lieutenants at the Field Artillery School.
They've been camped out on the West Range since Monday and will continue firing through today. While most of Lawton and Fort Sill was shut down Tuesday and Wednesday for the ice storm, the "sounds of freedom" could be heard booming as late as 10 p.m. Tuesday and bright and early the next morning, when the mercury struggled to reach 11 degrees.
When Fort Sill announced it was closing the roads, the unit commander made a decision to move from Firing Point 153 to Firing Point 103. That proved a wise choice because Alpha Battery had to fall back on its own resources to keep the Redleg War moving after the rest of the post shut down Tuesday. The support system that would normally have brought in their fuel, food and water was gone. |
